Full control encrypted communication in Inotes

Hello Friends,

let me this question about encryptet messages in iNotes. It is possible import internet certificate in Inotes and import public key from sender (Add contacts with key) or not and i have to use only in HCL Notes?

I am not clear about this. We have one internet addres accessed more users only from Webmail.

If this is not possible ill have to use only HCL Notes.

Many thanks for help.

Hello @Jan Pavelka

To enhance email security, iNotes administrators can enable users to encrypt and digitally sign their email messages.

The Administrator must enable the Encrypted Mail Support and Name Resolution and Validation options on the iNotes tab of the server's configuration settings document.

For more information on securing mail using iNotes, please refer to the product documentation.

Secure mail for iNotes

I hope this helps.

Hello.

As in Notes, iNotes stores its own private keys in the id file.
And the public key is stored in the Domino directory or in the personal address book.

Email encryption can be performed if the recipient's public key is contained in the
address book.
Mail signing requires your Internet certificate (private key) in your id file. Your own Internet certificate can also be imported from the iNotes UI.

If you are using an ID vault, you do not need to import manually as the ID file is supplied by the ID vault.

It is recommended that an ID vault be used.

Hello Jan Pavelka,

Yes you can send encrypted and signed mails to external domains from iNotes.

For Signing-

To do this, you need to import your own certificate (for signing) in User ID file and then upload this ID file in your mail file from iNotes > Preferences > Security. Once you have your own internet certificate in ID file, you will be able to send signed messages from iNotes. (To import the internet certificate in your ID file, you can do it from Notes Client by navigating to File > Security > User Security > <Enter password of your ID file> > Your Identity > Your Certificates > Get Certificates > Import Internet certificate.)

For Encrypting-

For encrypting, you need to first get the signed message from the external sender and save this contact in your mail file. While saving the contact, also save its certificate which will save the public key for that contact. Now it can be used while encrypting the mail. You can also save the contact in Notes Client first and then replicate it in the mail file if you want. This will allow you to send encrypted mail from iNotes to external clients.

Thank you.

Sandeep

Dear Sandeep,

thanks for help. Yes, our server supported ID Vault, and we can use in Inotes digitally signed and encrypten. I wasnt sure if i could add contact with public key from sender. Now i now, that will be this contact imported to do ID with public key. Ill tested. Many thanks for help.

Hi,

This is only correct if you have in the server address book an internet cross-certificate between the user's notes name and the recipient's internet address.
If this document does not exist, there is an error if the mail is check encrypted when sending with iNotes.
How can the user create this cross-certificate in the server directory when receiving the public key with iNotes...

We encounter the same situation with Verse...

this is the question for users in an inotes and verse environment.

how to simply secure communication

Regards

Cecile

Dear Cecile,

if iNotes recieve contact with public key of Certificate, than i think will be ok. Tommorow ill tested.

Thanks for help.

Best and regards.
