in my lotus notes all emails (read & unread) appear in same color font (unread emails appear in bold, but bold, but bold doesn’t look too different from non-bold; also, it doesn’t always change when I have read an email…)
how do I change font-color so unread emails appear in another font-color?
(lotus notes version is 8.5 – why is this option not in “release” drop-down in this form?)

Subject: Preferences>Fonts and Colors
Go into File>Preferences>Fonts and Colors. You have two choices for unread mail - Bold black, or plain red.
If you have set up Mail Preferences, Attention indicators, this will over-ride the unread marks. So that is one reason why things might not appear to have been marked ‘read’ after you read them.
Also, if you read a message in the preview pane only, it is not marked read.
That isn’t in the release drop-down in this form, because there is a separate forum for 8.5 … there are significant diffrences between 8.0 and 8.5, so they wanted to keep the questions & answers separate.

there is no “font and colors” under Preferences in 8.5… just “fonts”…
under “Mail” there is nothing about colors…
have not added any settings under “Attention Indicators”…
the only “Attention Indicator” I want is for ALL unread mail to be of a different font-color…
yes I noticed emails don’t appear ‘read’ unless you open them in a separate window (or tab…) what is the the rationale for that, that’s really not practical… oh brother… this email client is the bane of my existence…
