First impression of Domino Files mobile app

I started testing Domino Files on mobile (Android).

  • The loading of documents is rather slow, even when there is only a few words in the document and you open the same document multiple times. Same for creating a new document.
  • When you switch from portrait to landscape or the other way around, the open document will be closed. It does not matter if the document is in edit or view mode. Thankfully, it seems to save the document.
  • At times, I had some weird UI flickering while typing in portrait mode.
  • Modifying a presentation was not usable in landscape mode. The text kept disappearing/was not visible because it seemed to focus on a central element. However, I was not able to reproduce this.
  • in Landscape mode, the header takes too much space. The area you can use to work on a document is very small.
  • in Landscape mode, when you want to create a new file, the possible items are not all visible and it’s not possible to scroll to select more options.
  • .odg documents can not be previewed on mobile

I have done some testing on Android and I can confirm the first two points.
Is pretty slow in loading a document and switching orientation closes the document.

Agree with the feedback here and I’ve had similar experience on Android.

Also when uploading file from the mobile app -small files (less than 50 MB) upload fine if a little slow, I haven’t managed to upload anything over that size. It either crashes the app completely or looks like it’s completed but the file isn’t there. Speed test on my phone shows over 100 Mbps upload speed.

Thanks for detailed feedback on the initial release of Domino Files. We’ve created bugs to track all of the issues, including the slow loading, the rotation glitch, the landscape layout and the missing .odg previews. I’ve got a fix for the rotation issue in review right now and hope to have it available in Google Play in the next few days.

We’ll be pushing fixes to the Beta as we go, so you’ll see improvements before our next monthly update.

I just published an updated Android build to our Google Play Beta (1.0.0.0 202608282138) with a fix for the rotation issues as well as a new tablet layout and fixes for search issues as well. We’ll be working on the other issues reported and publishing more fixes in our Beta builds going forward.
