Helo,I m a bit new to Lotus notes.
Wish to know a small thing.
The situation is that i have a couple of folders to manage my mail traffic. Now i keep on moving my mails into these folders to keep my inbox clean.
Suppose i search for a mail with subject say “IBM”. Notes searches “All Documents” view and finds the mail.
Now how do i come to know in which folder is this mail located so that next time i can directly go to the folder and fetch the mail.
any help would be appreciable…
thanks…

Subject: Find mail location from search view.
Two options I can think of:
-
In the search results highlight the document in question and press the Ctrl key, and click on the folder you think it probably is in. If it’s in that folder, the document will be highlighted! Workable if you have two folders, probably not so workable with 20.
-
Enable folderreferences. Examples in the designer help file under the FolderReferences property of the NotesDocument class. The main caveat with this (apart from the minor processing / document size increase) is that it only applies to documents put in folders after enabled!

Thanks Rufus…The first option suggested by you is working, but i didnot understand the second one.
Anyways atleast i have a blunt way now…but as you said in case of large no of folders this manual method fails…

You can use the ‘$Inbox’ view to get the mails.
For searching for a mail with a particular subject, the better option may be to use ‘FTSearch’ with form=‘$Inbox’

Thanks Biju…But that doesn’t solve my problem.
What i wish to know is that once the search is over & notes successfully finds the mail in the “All Documents” view. How do i map that mail to one of my folders where i have stored this particular mail…
Hope i m clear.
Thanks & regards…

Subject: RE: Find mail location from search view.
Simply, you can’tThe DOCUMENT doesn’t know which folder it’s in
In Notes it’s the FOLDER that knows which documents it contains
You could change the various buttons and agents which put documents in and remove them from folders to add/remove the name of the fodler to/from the document, then change your ‘all documents’ view to show which folders a document thinks it is in

I think that I’ve read this is a new feature to be in ND7 when it’s released
