Filtering Embedded Views

I am trying to filter a view based on the current user. I was told the only way to do this on the web is to create an embedded view.

I have a view with a column called Originator. I imbedded this view into a form where I have created a field called Logger which has as the default value the user name of the person logged in. What I am trying to do is filter the view so that the only Originators who show up are those whose name is equal to Logger. I have not idea how to do this. I have tried a number of formulas in the Embedded Selection and used the Selected Categories but I cannot get anything close to the results I need. I found a few examples in the forum but none were specific enough to help.

I have also noticed that the embedded view ignores the selection that I have in the view itself.

Can anybody help with this?

Am I even on the right track?

Thank you in advance,

Jeff,

Are you using the “show single category” in your embedded view?

Mike,I’m not sure what to use. Should I use Show Single Category or Embedded Selection? Which would be better for what I am trying to do?

Thank you for your response.

Yes, imbedded is the way to go, since doing a selection formula on a normal view wouldn’t.

After the view is embedded in a form and the form name is specified as “$$ViewTemplate for ViewName”, you can set the first column of the view to be the name of the individuals. With the embedded view highlighted, you’ll see the option for “Show single category.” This option is where you’d put the Logger or @username code. That way when the view is called, it loads the embedded view and just the documents matching the person’s username and the first sorted column are displayed.

Enjoy!

Mike,From what you said I see the concept, what I do not understand is the syntax. How do I represent this in formula language? For example the column on the view is Originator the column on the form is Logger. How do I represent this in formula language?

Thanks for your help.

True as far as I know, just as it is true for the Notes client.

I have a view with a column called Originator. I imbedded this view into a form where I have created a field called Logger which has as the default value the user name of the person logged in. What I am trying to do is filter the view so that the only Originators who show up are those whose name is equal to Logger.

Click on the embedded view. You will see it has an event called Show Single Category. Type Logger in this event.

(In the other event, called Embedded selection, you type the name of the view you want the control to show.)
