...: File is not a Database

Hi

I am running 6.5.3 on windows 2003.

I have a mail file that when you try and open via File > Database > Open it gives an error that the file is not a database.

If I try and run any compact, fixup or updall commands I receive the same error.

I am unable to bookmark the database or do anything with it!

I can only see the file from windows explorer

Suggestions please?

Thanks in advance

In windows explorer, what happens when you double click on the file? Does Notes launch?

If I have Notes open on my machine it brings the client to the fore front and then generates the message"File is not a database:xxxxx\x.nsf"

If I try double click the file on the Server, Notes launches and then I receive an error message that

“File is not a database:xxxxx\x.nsf”

This could be one of two things:1. The database has been corrupted beyond fixup’s ability to repair it, or even recognize it as a database.

  1. Someone replaced the database file with another file saved with the .nsf extension.

The .nsf extension does not make a database out of any file. I once had a user who had replaced her id file with a .zip file with the name user.id. Natuarally, the user could not log on to Notes after that.

If Notes/Domino can not open or repair the file, then it is time to bring out the backup copy and restore from there. You do have a backup copy, don’t you?
