Wondering if anyone has seen this error, knows why a Notes database would shrink from 1.4GB to 2 bytes according to Windows Explorer (other than a lack of data!), and has sucessfully managed to “fix” the notes database with the problem.
Symptoms:
Server crashed due to an unexplained power interuption, and when it was restarted, error “File is not a Database” is displayed both on the server console when attempting to route email to this one specific users mailfile, or when attempting to open the database itself, either through File → Database → Open or attempting to fun nfixup etc on the database from the Admin client.
I have searched the LDD forums, with no sucess for any solutions listed there (invalid file header issue, etc.) and also done a google search on the error, with the same lack of results.
Thankyou in advance if you have the solution.
Subject: Restore quickly from tape backup
No Fixup program in the world is going to repair a mailbox currently occupying 2 bytes of disk.
Best to give up and restore from last good tape backup quickly, if your site overwrites old backups later in the week/month.
Subject: RE: Restore quickly from tape backup
I thought that was the only response I was likely to get, and as such it has already been done.
So, accepting that - a follow-on question:
Does anyone have any experience in this occuring to one of their databases? What was the cause?
I have gone through the Domino logs extensively, and there is absolutely nothing that would indicate that a failed Domino process of any kind occured, so my guess is that something happened while the Domino server was not running.
There was a 2 hour window over the weekend where administrational work was done by another technician to the system. As said previously, the mailfile was happily accepting email before the Domino shutdown, however was “not a database” when the server was restarted.
Suspisions? I have many, however Windows logs being like they are, i cannot “prove” my suspisions.
