I use v8.5.1 Notes client on Windows. And I don’t know what the cause of this error is but I see this atleast 2 to 3 times a day. Seems like if I don’t use my notes for 30 mins or more, I will see this. If I click on any message in my inbox to launch it or view in preview pane, this msg pops up and the only way for me is to exit Notes completely wait for couple minutes and relaunch the client.
It is very frustrating and I am hoping someone has an answer on how to fix it. Thanks.

I’m having this same issue with Notes 8.5.2 with FP2. Has a resolution for this issue ever been posted? Extremely annoying and impacting productivity.

Just in case it’s useful to someone else, just had these errors again with a Notes client on a new PC. Fix that worked for me before was putting the following line in notes.ini
NOTES_TEMPDIR=d:\IBM\NotesTemp
