Faulting module nwnspR32.dll

is giving me a lot of headache. with the latest interim fix 2 DAMO is not crashing anymore Windows Search directly but now through DEP (Data Execution Prevention)

Faulting application SearchProtocolHost.exe, version 7.0.6001.16503, time stamp 0x483b9996, faulting module nwnspR32.dll_unloaded, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4874734e, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x10002e74, process id 0x13f8, application start time 0x01c956ec48bc36d7.

Moreover, the very same module keeps on crashing iTunes sync module when syncing iTunes with Outlook.

Faulting application OutlookSyncClient.exe, version 8.0.1.0, time stamp 0x4914bb1c, faulting module nwnspR32.dll_unloaded, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4874734e, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x02912e74, process id 0x1718, application start time 0x01c9561e1fc33c10.

Anybody help with those matter?

Cheers,

Kai

Subject: Have you been contacted by support?

Hi,

I just wanted to follow up and make sure you’ve been contacted by someone from the support team. I believe that should have been the case, as we believe this is an installation/upgrade bug.

Please let me know if you haven’t heard from a support team member

Tim Rich

Subject: no response from any support

so far there was no attempt by any support. I wrote once to M Rowe and was told to simply delete that dll as it would be of no use anyway, though wondering then why it is being installed and crashing other applications. and yes for sure, it is a bug and should be ironed.

Subject: fix is included in Interim Fix 3

Follow this link for instructions to download the latest version (currently Interim Fix 3)…

Subject: Good to hear from you again…

Hi Kai,

I expect all is going (fairly) well with you and DAMO since our last contact through the Beta forum.

A few points for clarification:

1 - DAMO has not been tested with iTunes sync module.

2 - There was a series of problems that involved the nwnsrR32.dll that the DAMO install placed in the Windows\System32 folder. This file was responsible for the Outlook crash on exit on Vista and the Windows Search shutdown problems. It was only after collaborating with Microsoft that we were able to identify the cause. Then, we discovered that the nwnsrR32.dll file was not getting updated during the DAMO install. The installation was then changed to eliminate the need to update that file. Most recently, the install now looks for its existence in the System32 folder and if it exists, it will be removed.

3 - I am unaware of any circumstance where Support will contact you. However, through the Passport Advantage support system, you can initiate a PMR to address any problems you may be having. If it cannot be addressed by the support engineers, the PMR will be escalated to the DAMO Development Team.

4 - As indicted in the previous entry, through Fix Central, the entitlement process allows you to easily check for the latest DAMO release and download it. The newest release is DAMO 8.0.2 Interim Fix 3 that was release late in December.

Thanks, Mike
