Error: “Import/Export Not Configured” When Exporting From a View

Problem:

You are attempting to export documents from a view by selecting the menu option File/Export. However, instead of getting the Export dialog box as expected, you immediately get the error message:

"Import/Export not configured."

Clicking OK from this error dialog brings you back to the view and you are unable to export the documents.

Solution:

The Notes client install should place lines like the following in the NOTES.INI file. If none of these are not present, you will get the “Import/Export not configured” error message. To correct the problem, reinstall the client or copy the VIEWEXPx lines from a working machine.

VIEWEXP1=Lotus 1-2-3,0,_XWKS,.WKS,.WK1,.WR1,.WRK,4,

VIEWEXP3=Structured Text,0,_XSTR,.LTR,.CGN,.STR,1,

VIEWEXP4=Tabular Text,1,_XTAB,.LTR,.RPT,.CGN,.TAB,1,

I have had the same issue. The suggested fix in the earlier post is for version 5 not 6. The problem is related but the fix is unnecessary and will not solve your issue (as you found out the lines are already in the v.6 notes.ini file anyway). - read the support doc below but in a nutshell lotus is aware of the issue but there is no fix at this time. Sorry.

Subject: minor success

try placing the line:

EDITEXP23=Word for Windows 6.0,2,_XW4W,W4W49T/V0,.DOC,2,

in your notes.ini file

For temporary testing of output this will allow you to use the export function from the file menu but you still cannot invoke it using the @Command([FileExport]).

Subject: RE: minor success

It’s now late September and we’re using Notes 6.0.2CF1 and there is no feature in Notes to allow export to a Microsoft Word document. We tried adding the EDITEXP23= line into our notes.ini files and Notes responds with:“The feature you have chosen is not available in this version of Notes. To access this feature, you will need to install the shipping version of Notes”. By this, they mean R5.05 or later of an R5 client. We’ve found that if you happen to have an R5.05+ client installed on a pc (but not being USED), this will work. Developers and a few admins might have this setup – my general client population doesn’t.

I’ve just finished upgrading all my clients, I don’t want to go back and install a “dummy” client for a simple, expected, feature that our users had come to rely upon in multiple applications. The Lotus tech note suggests “use an R5 client to perform the export”. Hmmm… not really viable…

If anyone knows of a way to continue to do what we used to do, please post it here.

Meanwhile our users are getting by with cut and paste from the document created using Actions, Forward! (Mickey mouse but…)

Thanks for any suggestions!

Subject: I should clarify the above posting…

We have completely inadequate and inconsistent results using export as Microsoft RTF format. It’s just not an option.

What we are looking for is the ability to export a Notes document as a Microsoft Word document (like we did before we upgraded).

Thanks.

Subject: Exporting documents to Word using the R6 client

Better late than never I guess… :slight_smile:

I was queried about this today and would never have found the answer without the pointers that I first found on this site.

Workaround that I found. Some of it may not be necessary as I have been poking and prodding about as usual.

Add the EDITEXP23=… line from an R5.05 or better R5 client. This will open up the option on the document but gets you the feature not installed message.

copy from the R5 client binary directory (notes if you’re like me…) the following files

NW4W*.dll

nxw4w.dll

to the new R6 binary directory.

I also copied niw4w.dll and backed up the old one. This may not be needed as it seems to be an import dll.

restart your client and try the export. That should do it.

Took me about an hour. Should have taken the IBM Lotus support guys about 1 minute. So I assume they don’t want us to have word export filters.

One point to note. It seriously screws with the format of a mail doc. Looks horrendous. Pretty much the same as the RTF export. Perhaps that is why they removed it in the first place…

Enjoy.

Neil.

Subject: For what it is worth

You might find my blog post on Exporting to MS Word interesting. Caution, it does talk about use of our commercial Midas Rich Text LSX product, but I thought you might still like a heads up given your comments about the quality of the export.

Subject: RE: Exporting notes document to Microsoft Word

Have not found an EASY way to do it yet however my priorities have changed & I have not been spending too much time looking at this problem lately. The report/Form I was looking to export is a very simple layout but with many fields on it. I was having some promising results layinging it out for a text file format using JAVA. However, I think it is more work than it is worth considering all the fields on my form and the fact that the export to a Word doc feature should be working natively at the document level. Hopefully there are some other suggestions out there we can both use or Lotus gets the problem resolved quickly. Wish I had better news for you. There are 3rd pary software products that can send document/forms to pdf and other formats. Suggest searching the forums for “PDF” or “Doc” then look at the suggested product specs for other formats. For me this is too time consuming considering the bureaucracy i would have to go through to get the software approved. hopefully lotus fixes this quickly - think many people will be happy. Keep checking the “Fixes” database as well for the version of Notes/Domino your using this is where - Good Luck. right-hand side of the page below - (search in fixes DB for “@Command
