Export contacts from iNotes

I have a user who only uses iNotes to access his mail database. He would like to export his contacts, but there appears to be no way to do so.

Is there a way to export contacts from iNotes to a .vcf format or something similar?

Thanks.

This can be easily be accomplished by first, synchronizing the contacts from DWA into the user’s Personal Directory.

To fufilll this first requirement, have the user access their mail database with a Notes client. Then, execute the following menu command:

Actions \ Synchronize Address Book

Once the personal directory synchronization is complete [i.e., contacts are in the user Personal Directory], then you can export them to a VCF file.

While in the Notes client, have the user access their personal Directory, then execute this menu command:

File \ Export

The user is then prompted with the following dialog box:

file name: “desired_file_name”

Save as Type: vCard 3.0

The user is then prompted with the following dialog box:

How much to export:

  • All documents

  • Selected documents (default)

Export Character set

  • Native character set

  • International [UTF-8] (default)

Detail to Incorporate

  • Only basic address fields (default)

  • All fields

Then, the contacts [either selected or all] are exported and written to a VCF file. You can then import the VCF file into a late generation mail client that is VCF compliant.

Groups are not included in the export.

This VCF export is also a viable method to make a backup copy of the user’s contacts.

We have used that method in the past, but this user is different. What we’re working with now is a user who uses only iNotes. There is no personal directory with which to replicate.

The addresses are all stored within his mail database, but we haven’t been able to find a way to export them without a user directory.
