We recently carried out an upgrade of two servers to Domino 8.5 which went very smoothly. However both servers show the following message in statrep.nsf at regular intervals.
Database events4.nsf in view ($Messages) contains 31 duplicate documents
The servers are in separate mail domains and have nothing to do with each other (no replicas, no mail connections, they are even on separate physical networks) yet both show 31 duplicate documents in events4! is it coincidence? And how to I resolve the error?
Subject: same issue with some more detail on findings
Hi Scott
Not sure if this will be of any help but…
I am getting the same duplicate messages:
Database events4.nsf in view ($StatFindByName) is missing 13 documents as defined in events4.ntf
Database events4.ntf in view ($Messages) contains 31 duplicate documents
Database events4.nsf in view ($Messages) is missing 406 documents as defined in events4.ntf
After not having any success with the cleanup console commands created a copy of the ($messages) view in the NTF file and categorised the view by code and added a totals column to identify duplicates.
There were several duplicates there and what I noticed was that consistently, one was last updated by the server back in 2006 and the other updated by yourself as follows:

Keen to know what the impact of not resolving these messages is, if any
We upgraded over the weekend and now I’m getting this error repeatedly as well. I’ve run the tell event clean ($Messages)command but it continues. What gives and how critical is this error?
Subject: Database events4.nsf in view ($Messages) contains 1 duplicate documents – New server installation
After install a “fresh” Lotus Domino Server R8.5.1 FP2 receive 2 similar errors in DDM:Database events4.nsf in view ($Messages) contains 1 duplicate documents
analyzing events4 db have found 2 differnet messages with same code value “EVENT MONITOR0X3308”
Probably, changing Value field 0x3308 in any message to free one (i.e. 0x330a) will solve this problem
IMHO bug from IBM
