Event notification SNAFU - Any ideas?

Greetings - I have an odd problem with event notification via email to a mobile phone that may have a simple answer.

When a notification is generated by the server, it is sent as an SMTP mail to my pager and a T-mobile phone used by a coworker. I get the email/page but he doesn’t. I can send an email from my PC to his phone with no problem, but the email from the server notification never gets there. I have one theory that I’d like to test, but can’t seem to find a way to make it happen.

I’m surmising that T-mobile is rejecting the message from the server because it is generated with the server’s Notes name as the originator, rather than a valid Internet mail address. (T-mobile is totally unhelpful when requesting any information or assistance with this problem.)

Is there a server config setting to have the event notification message use an Internet mail address for the “from” rather than the Notes name? This server is not set up for SMTP mail in any other way and outbound Internet mail is directed through a default foreign SMTP domain (as is all user-originated mail).

Any suggestions or experience with this type of problem would be most appreciated.

I had similar problems with T-Mobile when I was at R5 because the from address from the server was something ugly like this: Server ‘ServerName/ORGANIZATION’@DOMAIN which T-Mobile did not like and rejected. This From address is not changeable on the Domino side. Lotus Support described this to me as a “known issue”, but I have never seen a technote on it.

This problem went away when I upgraded to 6.0.3.

I continually wish for an easy way to customize emails from Stats & Events and it never happens…

Thanks for the confirmation of my suspicion. We’re running Domino 6.5.1 and are (as you can tell) still having the problem after upgrading from 5.0.11.
