I have installed DAMO 6.5.3 with Outlook XP with no difficulty. I cannot seem to get email history to replicate to Outlook from Domino that is older than 3 months at the time of DAMO installation, even when I set the replication in Outlook to 365 days. Is there something I have missed or a bug? Others experiences?
Subject: You should get the 6.5.5 prebeta …
Hi Murray,
DAMO 6.5.5 prebeta has been available for free evaluation. It is worlds ahead of 6.5.3. You decision aregarding DAMO should not be based on evaluating the 6.5.3 release. At the bottom of this doc is information about getting the 6.5.5 download and access to the discussion forum. Once you are registered with LDD (Step 1 below) let us know on this forum and we’ll get you access to the 6.5.5 perbeta. Let us know what your LDD username is.
Using the Tool->Options->Domino Preferences->Replication button, set the server mail file threshold at its lowest setting (25 MB) so that the aging of the docs to be initialiazed will kick in. Set the “do not replicate mesages older than” to 365. This will result in creating 2 notes.ini entries for this user:
__MaxSize=26214400
__Purge=365
You can set these parameters before initializing or, disregard the initialization dialog and set these parameters though the Domino Preferences UI. Then restart Outlook so these new values will be implemented.
Once again, rather than addressing this in the 6.5.3 release, it makes much more sense to get the latest 6.5.5 pre-beta and join that forum.
Mike

New DAMO beta participants:
-
If you’re interested in getting the 6.5.5 Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook beta release, please provide your Lotus Developer Domain (LDD) username to your Support Engineer or other IBM contact so that you can be registered for the 6.x MR beta program. If you don’t have an LDD username, you need to go here http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/reg/lddreg.nsf/regchoice, register and then send the resulting username (not password) to your Support Engineer or other IBM contact . The LDD usernames should be forwarded to Jan Kenney/Westford/IBM by a Support Engineer or other IBM contact to register you in the 6.x MR program.
-
Once they are registered the you will be able to properly enter the beta program through this Welcome page (which is in the process of getting updated for 6.5.5) http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/beta/wp4dominobeta.nsf. Links to both the download site and feedback forum are on this welcome page.
Note: Your LDD username gives you access to the Welcome page and feedback forum hosted on LDD. Your IBM web id is needed for actually downloading the beta release. When you access the download link you will need to click the blue “Register” link, answer a few questions and wait a short time for an email acknowledgment on id creation. Easy to do and takes less than 5 mins to complete.
Previous (existing) DAMO beta participants:
You’ll be brought forward from the previous beta that you participated in. An email will be sent out that points to the Welcome Page.

This looks promising.
At our organization we desperately need to run DAMO. We migrated from Exchange to Domino about a year and a half ago. We have about 800 Users.
Of those about 200 are connecting to the Domino server through POP3 with Outlook, Outlook express. We also have some users using Outlook connector.
These guys are mission critical and also create about 70,000 emails amongst themselves every month. That’s a ton of email. Because of this high reliance and traffic they want to stay on Outlook, where they are comfortable.
They have very large mail files (multiple Gigabytes) and also have hundreds of rules to file all that email into folders. The problem is that the server that they are connecting to is R5.0.10 which has the older support for POP3 access. We are in the process of trying to upgrade the servers to R6.5.4.
The result is constant mailbox corruption and complaints about the server going down (all caused by pop3 access)
We want to use R6.5.5 DAMO. The questions that I have are:
Will there be Mail Rule support for more than 50 rules? We are not currently able to use DAMO because their mail rules don’t work properly.
I read that the mail rule limit in R5 is 50, and that it is 100 in R6. Could this be causing our problem with DAMO 6.5.3 and 6.5.4? Or does that only pertain to mail rules that exist in the Lotus Notes Client and not DAMO?

Secondly, how will archiving work with DAMO 6.5.5. With 6.5.3 and 6.5.4, the archiving didn’t work properly.
Kindest Regards.

Hi Sing,
"Of those about 200 are connecting to the Domino server through POP3 with Outlook, Outlook express. We also have some users using Outlook connector. "
Outlook/DAMO connects to the server using MAPI and Notes replication. Were POP3 pulls everything locally, Outlook/DAMO keeps the email on the server yet, for those who travel, working off-line is easy too.
“These guys are mission critical and also create about 70,000 emails amongst themselves every month. That’s a ton of email. Because of this high reliance and traffic they want to stay on Outlook, where they are comfortable.”
The reason for Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook (DAMO)'s existance is exactly that. Users should not be effected by the migration to Domino in the back end.
“They have very large mail files (multiple Gigabytes) and also have hundreds of rules to file all that email into folders. The problem is that the server that they are connecting to is R5.0.10 which has the older support for POP3 access. We are in the process of trying to upgrade the servers to R6.5.4.”
Outlook/DAMO requires Domino 6.5.1 or higher. Also, be aware that for Outlook 2K & 2002 (XP) the limit of the local pst file is 2 gig. However, Outlook 2003 has a 20 gig limit.
“I read that the mail rule limit in R5 is 50, and that it is 100 in R6. Could this be causing our problem with DAMO 6.5.3 and 6.5.4? Or does that only pertain to mail rules that exist in the Lotus Notes Client and not DAMO?”
I’m not sure what problem you are seeing with DAMO 6.5.3, but clearly, any decisions should be based on DAMO 6.5.5 prebeta. (See the 7/26 entry in this thread). But server performance can be impacted through the high number of rules permitted. DAMO 6.5.5 now has Mail Rules feature. This all takes place on the client and does not impact the server performance. The number of rules is an Outlook limitation that limits the size of the “*.rwz” files that contains the rules to 32K. So there can be many short rules or fewer long rules. These can be any number of these rwz files.
“Secondly, how will archiving work with DAMO 6.5.5. With 6.5.3 and 6.5.4, the archiving didn’t work properly.”

The archive PST file will be created during the process of setting up Auto Archiving. The file name will be “archive.pst” and the title as displayed in the navigation pane will be “Archive Folders”.

Age-based cleaning up of documents is based on the modification date, not the creation date of those documents.

Mike,
Thanks for the responses. I have found them to be very valuable. Maybe, I should tell you that you are preaching to the choir here. ![]()
We are defintely looking to get off of Outlook Connector. With the way our users utilize email in their business processes, there are too many limitations with Outlook connector for it to be a real solution in our environment (even though we have some users using it).
I do have another question or two for you though.
“Outlook/DAMO requires Domino 6.5.1 or higher.”
This means that the server has to be Domino 6.5.1 or higher correct?
"Also, be aware that for Outlook 2K & 2002 (XP) the limit of the local pst file is 2 gig. However, Outlook 2003 has a 20 gig limit.
Thanks for that comment, it definitely is relevent here.

This is EXCELLENT news! Archiving is the second show stopper for us.
If both mail rules and mail archiving work properly in the Outlook 2003 client with DAMO 6.5.5, we may have a solution to our cumbersome problems.

That’s correct, This is the URL to the RElease Notes for 6.5.4. It will be the same for 6.5.5.
See the “Things you need to know” section.

Michael/Jan,
My LDD name is John Moe. Can I access to the DAMO Beta site? I tried to sign up for it on the beta forum page but never heard back about having access.
We are having a couple of issues with it and I would like to search that forum before posting questions, and would like to post them to the Beta forum instead of open forum.
Thanks,
John Moe
