I get the following error when I try to launch Lotus Notes:
“You Cannot Use the Administration Program While the Notes Server is Running. Either Shut Down the Notes Server (But Keep the File Server Running) or Choose the Icon Labeled Lotus Notes Instead.”
I’ve read this document but I’m still not sure how to fix my error:

I’ve got lotus notes installed on my laptop. My datafiles are in the T:\Notes\DataFiles directory while my programfile are in the C:\Notes\ProgFiles directory. When I logoff my laptop and sign on as another user, I get this error.
Oh, and when logged in as both users on the laptop, my T drive is mapped to a different local folder on the C drive.
Notes will launch fine when I’m logged on as the same user who installed it. But when I got on with the user who didn’t install I get the error posted above.

I’ve seen this error when you or the person who installed the software did so under the Administrator credentials (or by a user in the Admin group) on the XP Operating System. I would guess that you are no longer master of your domain.

I think you’re right but I still have to test more. What I did was uninstalled notes and tried to install using the ID that was giving me a problem. I got an Error 1315 - Unable to write to the specified folder…
I’ve got a request in to have it changed. I’ll keep you posted!

I’ve had this and similar error messages with XP. It seems that only the installer of Notes is given write access to the program directory where it is installed, and where presumably the notes.ini file lives. On startup, Notes is trying to write to the .ini file and failing with this horribly uninformative message. So long as you’ve got XP Pro, using the id that installed Notes, simply set the Notes program directory to be shared (right-click directory, select sharing). If you’ve got XP Home, you don’t have this option and the only way is to give all users admin privileges (XP Home is not a supported platform, due to this kind of limitation).

I’ve seen this message if a user on the domain is trying to launch Notes other than the normal user that launches it. Go into Control Panel and go into Users and add the user to have Admin rights locally to the computer.
