I’ve searched this thread without much luck, so hopefully someone will point out something I am missing.
We are seeing “Error delivering to y z; File does not exist” messages appear on our Domino Consoles, where y is the server name and z is the mail file path. In every case, the mail file path is pointing to a mail file that no longer exists, because the user has been deleted from the Domino Directory. Not recently, but quite a while ago.
However, when Internet/SMTP messages are sent to our domain, even though the individual’s names are not listed in the Domino Directory, something is still sending the mail message from the Domino SMTP server to the Domino server the user used to reside on, which triggers the error.
I’ve checked the Domino directory on all the servers in our domain and not found any reference to the user or mail file path. I created a view that contains only Replication/Save Conflicts, which did not show the Person document information. Finally, I even wrote an agent to scan all documents in each replica in our domain and found no references to the mail file path noted in the console error.
We also have LDAP running on one of the Domino servers. Running a query against the email address or individual’s name does not return any results.
Is there anything else I can try? We can recreate the problem by sending an email to one of these addresses using an external email account. The address is accepted by our Domino SMTP server and then tries to route to the Domino server where the mail file used to exist … then causes the error listed above.
We don’t get a lot of these errors, but would like to resolve the issue.
Thanks, in advance!

Check $Users view on ur SMTP server names.nsfAlso u can set the option for Router in smtp server configuration doc to checkup smtp receipient in directory before accepting the mail otherwise reject it

Thanks for the advice, Ajay.
<< Check $Users view on ur SMTP server names.nsf >>
Checking the ($Users) view on the SMTP server did not result in finding any of the individuals generating the error.
<< Also u can set the option for Router in smtp server configuration doc to checkup smtp receipient in directory before accepting the mail otherwise reject it >>
We enabled the “Verify that local domain recipients exist in the Domino Directory” configuration on our SMTP server without any change in the result about a year ago. If this is not the field you are referring to, please let me know.
Thanks!

Enable Full Access Administration on your server then check for a document that may have been hidden by a $Readers field that you couldn’t see before.

No difference after enabling Full Access Administration either.
Thanks for the suggestion!

perhaps the server is finding an old doc in a cascaded or extended directory. issue “sh xdir” at the server console to see if there are any other directories the server might be looking at.
Subject: RE: Error delivering to y z; File does not exist
sh xdir from both the SMTP server’s console and the server generating the error message are only showing the address books we are expecting to see.
Those address books are our Domino Directory and two other directories used to house our two business partners. Neither of those address books have entries that map to the servers generating the errors, as an FYI.
Thanks for the command, I had not heard of the “sh xdir” command before.
Have a great weekend!
