Error 554 5.6.0 Message rejected by content filter

Someone from rccl(royal caribbean cruises) is sending an email to me using Notes 6, they keep getting the follwoing error message:

"Delivery Failure Report

Your document: email subject test

was not delivered to: abc@123.com

because: Error transferring to mailserver1.SCAN-AM.COM; SMTP Protocol Returned a Permanent Error 554 5.6.0 Message rejected by content filter."

… However other people’s emails from the same company come through fine.

I have read a lot about error 554 and how their smpt server might be blocking our ip (spam blacklist) or blocking a posible harmful attachment (inbound filtering)

But it seems funny that only one user has this problem… i tought maybe changing his email format setting to plain text might do the trick… any suggestions on similar experiences.

All & any thoughs or ideas would be appreciated. thanx

Andy, what is this particular user sending you? Could it be that the contents is violating some Company’s contenting filtering policy? How about having the user send a plain text message.

I appreciate all your suggestions… rccl’s I.T’s are pompous and haven’t been cooperative enough to change their settings to plain text… hopefully i’ll get through and post update on my progress about this issue. thanx all

if mailserver1.SCAN-AM.COM is your mail server then whatever is in the message, ie the content, has triggered some content filtering rule and the message is being rejected with a standard 554 rejection with this explanatory text “5.6.0 Message rejected by content filter.”

domino by itself does not generate the 5.6.0 part of the text so if you’re using domino then you’ve also got some sort of content filtering add-in running. if you’re not using domino then i have no idea. either way you’d need to ask your email admin why it’s being filtered.

before you do you need to get them to send the same message in plain text and make sure it’s just the mesage, ie get rid of all those company footers and standard disclaimers and see if that comes though. if that still doesn’t work then i can only think it has something to do with their actual email address, ie their name.
