I’m currently tasked with looking at what 3rd party tools/technologies are available for Notes to improve the process of attachment distribution / management for our environment.
The main req is to prevent mass distribution of duplicate attachments. We know about shared mail and, as with most admins, tend to avoid it like the plague. So I have come across the following 3rd party products and, whilst their web-sites / datasheets all seem reasonably impressive, I’m struggling to find any independent assessment of their pros and cons and particularly their scalability and stability for a global Notes environment. In fact, I can’t even find any technotes / forum threads about them which leads me to question their market presence.
So, my questions is, anyone use / know about these products and, if so, what do you think about them?:

What about compressing atts instead of storing them in a separate DB?By compressing atts there is no risk… else if any of these products fails maybe some atts will be deleted, or if the central repository corrupts then you may loose all your atts.
The “oldest” (more experience) and more complete tool is ZipMail… see it at www.mk-net-work.com

Hi Paul,
I’ve recently managed the integration of Email Xtender (EX) into our Domino 6.5 domain. In many respects the product does what it sets out to, but my experience indicates there are certain interractions between EX Shortcutting* and routine Domino processes that can affect Domino server availability to users.
My Domino Domain is probably a lot smaller than yours - 400 users, 2 Mail Servers, 2 Apps Servers, divided between 2 sites and X-certified with our parent organisation’s domain which is approximately 10x as big.
I’m happy to discuss my experience with EX further but would prefer to do it away from a public board.

Thanks for the feedback. We are also piloting ZipMail at the moment for the immediate ‘win’ it can offer on disk space. I appreciate the offer John, the req is very high-level at the moment but I may well be in touch if our initial interest in EmailXtender progresses further.
