I have an editable combobox field that is going blank during save. The field in question is a Subcategory field (CR_FType) whose values depend on the choices made in the Category field (CR_Category). When I choose a category, the appropriate choices appear in the Subcategory field, but during Save the Subcategory field goes blank. When the document is reopened, the Subcategory field value shows the same thing as the Category field.
This formula doesn’t need to fire off when the document is being loaded or saved, only after the Category field changes. Whatever the user chooses should stay in the field. Help?
Subject: RESOLVED: Editable Combobox field goes blank on save
This was a matter of the Category field having been copied to create the Subcategory field; there was an input translation that was changing the value of the copied field. I deleted that and everything works just as it should.

In your @Return(“”), it should be @Return(FieldName), so that the current value is still an option. Returning “” will remove all the options from the combobox.

Thanks Phil. I did change that - the field is still behaving the same. I just put that line in to stop it from firing when the document was opening & to see if I could stop it from blanking at save time - nope, not so far.

When a document is saved a combobox will appear empty if the value it holds does not appear in the list of options. If you check the fields value in the document properties you will find it holds a value which will appear when you open the document in read mode but disappear again when it is put into edit mode.
It sounds as though you have some code somewhere that is setting the sub category field to the value of the category field.

Thanks, Matt! You are quite right - there was an input translation changing the value of the field. I deleted the input translation formula and all is well now.
When the request came in for this I knew that there would be about 45,000 documents with some other value in the Category field because the categories would now be split from things like “Notes App: Training” to “Notes Applications” with a subcategory of “Training”. Therefore I concatenated the field name at the end of the list so that any value that was already there is allowed in the list.
