I’m wanting to demistify web access to mailboxes.
Currently, we use webmail access to mailboxes and end users are not happy with the look, feel, and functionality of their mailbox.
What is needed to get DWA setup? Is the code supplied with the 6.5.4 server? Is it an extra add-on that must be downloaded and installed or is it just a task and mailbox templates that are supplied with the 6.5.4 code?
Are there licensing issues that are relevant?
I know that iNotes is based on the R5 mail tempalte, but DWA replaces iNotes and is based on R6 mail templates.
Any clearer explanation would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

As far as I know (I use DWA, but maybe I have forgotten some things I have configurated):
It is supplied with 6.5.x
DWA is simply a template, which you use instead the normal mail-template.
The server only needs the http task to use DWA, if you want to use the offline mode, you need DOLS to (I got offline working, but can’t remember if I have configured something).
If you have enough licences to use normal webmail, you can also use DWA.

Subject: DWA versus Domino webmail
Hi Sing,
To setup DWA you need to replace design of the mail files with the iNotes/DWA mail template. HTTP must also be running on the server (which you already have since you’re running webmail). There are some additional configuration settings that can be done in the server doc. For example the default page they see when they login to DWA. The template should come with 6.5.4. As far as licensing goes, I believe it is regarded as a CAL (Client Access License). Which means that if the user already has a Notes client license, then they are all set. If not, a license needs to be purchased (at a lower cost than the Client license). Things to remember about DWA vs. Webmail:
-
DWA is a lot more bandwidth intensive than Webmail. If you have users at remote sites trying to access mail in DWA, they will see slow downs if the connection pipe is small (i.e. - dial-up)
-
It is harder to modify DWA than Webmail. Although this is changing since a new Java tool came out for Version 6. I wasn’t too successful at getting it to work though.
-
Although the template looks similar to webmail, you can’t treat it like the webmail template. Much of the actual design is in a database called Forms6.nsf (hidden on the Domino server)
