Dual Core vs Two Dual Core

I am putting together a new server box to run Domino. My question is: how much potential benifit is there to running Domino on two dual core processors over running it on one dual core processor.

How well does Domino take advatage of extra processors?

We only have 17 Notes Clients accessing the server. With our current set up (2 Xeon 500mz processors) it takes over a minute to build a view the first time it is opened. We want to drastically decrease this time. The processors we are looking at are Woodcrest Xeon 5130’s.

I don’t want to waste money that won’t be utilized. Thanks for any insight~

a single, dual core processor should be plenty for 17 users - if view indexing is slow, invest in a faster disk setup. more smaller, faster drives in a raid 1+0 raid 5 array will (usually) get you better results than a few large drives.

To put some perspective on that, we have a dual processor box serving mail to 400+ users. typical view builds are in 2-3 seconds (5-10 for something like a 50/60k+ document database)

the OS and swap are on a 4 drive raid 1+0, data is on a 14 drive raid 1+0.

and we aren’t yet using transaction logs.
