DSTLAw and Clients on Windows XP with iSeries Server

Our Server is an iSeries and our clients are running on Windows XP.

The DST PTFs have been applied the iSeries and the Notes server restarted

We have not applied Microsoft’s patch for Windows XP.

Here is my problem, has anyone else experienced this? Has anyone figured out why it’s happening? Is it related to not having the Microsoft patch applied?

I created a Desktop Policy so I can use it to change the DSTLaw setting in

all our clients’ Notes.ini file. I’ve been testing this on my own id and

can not get the change to stick.

Here is what I’ve done:

BEFORE I log into Notes I open my Notes.ini file and see that the DSTLAW setting is “DSTLAW=4,1,1,10,-1,1” and close the Notes.ini file

I log into Notes and open the Notes.ini file again, the DSTLAW setting is now correct “DSTLAW=3,2,1,11,1,1” and close the Notes.ini file

If I close Notes and log in again, the DSTLAW setting reverts back to “DSTLAW=4,1,1,10,-1,1”.

the technotes clearly address this issue:

Note: If you are running Notes/Domino 6.0 or later, you should not use the Notes/Domino DSTLaw notes.ini parameter to attempt to work around this issue, except as noted for specific operating systems. In Notes/Domino 6.0 or later, the DST rule functionality works in conjunction with the operating system DST rule settings, regardless of the use of the DSTLaw setting in your notes.ini with the exception of IBM iSeries operating systems. For this operating system the DSTLaw parameter must be used to ensure that Notes and Domino work as expected.

Thank you.

I had misinterpreted this section of the “clearly stated” technote

“In Notes/Domino 6.0 or later, the DST rule functionality works in conjunction with the operating system DST rule settings, regardless of the use of the DSTLaw setting in your notes.ini with the exception of IBM iSeries operating systems. For this operating system the DSTLaw parameter must be used to ensure that Notes and Domino work as expected”

I took it to mean that since we are using an iSeries for the server “operating system” that we had to use the DSTLaw regardless of which client operating system we were using.

In any case, I still need to use the Desktop Policy I created and apply it to our users that are still on Notes 5. Which there are very few of.

If you are running Domino for iSeries you DO need the DSTLaw setting. As per the istructions:

“… with the exception of IBM iSeries operating systems …”

“For this operating system the DSTLaw parameter must be used to ensure that Notes and Domino work as expected”

I am experiencing the same issue with some users as well. Clients are on XP SP2 and server is iSeries.

I have properly set the DSTLaw value on the server to 3,2,1,11,1,1 as well as the client. When I restart the Notes client, it changes back to the default value.

The calendar entries for this user are incorrect during the affected time period however, if I sign on as this user on my PC, everything works fine. I can find no differenced in PC’s that don’t work and those that do, but I am out of ideas.

Hi Jeremy,

Look at those

for your Notes.ini (users).

This line UseNotesTimeZone= must equal 0 (zero) or be remove.

Or:

In the names.nsf (local), should be set yo YES:

or in the mail preferences:

Or in users preferences

If you see it correctly on your computer, it’s probably because your OS is patched.

Hi,

The DstLaw setting should not be applied to a Notes 6.0 or later client.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) 2007 information for Lotus Notes and Domino

In Notes 6.0 or later, the Notes client refers to the OS Setting to apply the DST parameter.

Also, you should patch your clients
