DST OS Patch: Notes Client can't be running?

The Lotus instructions for OS dst patches state that the Notes Client must not be running during the windows OS patch.

Is this really true? Seems like it would affect the normal OS patch rollouts that occur during a Windows Update (ie in background).

Or is Lotus overstating things, and the client only really needs to be restarted/rebooted after the patch.

It may seem like splitting hairs, but it can mean a huge difference in the rollout planning.

(PS. Lotus states the same thing for the Domino Server)

Customers have reported that Notes picks up the wrong new time zone if the client in running when the patch is applied. This has been seen in the Central and Mountain time zones. They are picking up the new time zones that were added for Mexico time zone changes. For those reasons, we recommend that the client be down. If you cannot force the client down, watch for this issue.

Thanks for the info.Do you have any specific information as to why this mexico DST issue occurs? (ie is it only for Notes Clients that are using the Notes Timezone setting, rather than using the OS timezone setting)

As you know MS will eventually be pushing out the timezone patch as an update to workstations. Some PC’s have those update processes occur automatically in the background. If there is a client side setting that could avoid the issue (ie being proactive) then it seems like it should be investigated.

thanks.
