Double Names

Hello

I wanted to ask you, how do you handle double names in Domino? e.g. John Smith

Another Question: Does the adminP Task change names on application documents only in authors and readers fields, or also in names fields?

Thanx for any answer…

Subject: Unique Org

Hi Frederic,

I usually recommend using the Unique Org field when registering people, this will be part of their full name, so you might have John Smith/JS/Org and another John Smith/JOS/Org etc and give them shortnames matching the unique org.

Its on the last page if you check the Advanced checkbox while registering.

Subject: it depends

Changing of names in Reader/Author or Names fields through AdminP solely depends of ACL settings for a database.See second field on ‘Advanced’ tab of ACL and read about it in documentation.

Subject: Hi

What do you mean by double Names?

John Smith is a very common username.

If you are talking about the middle name, I generally don’t use it. Just use the first name and make sure the last name is always populated.

Subject: Re:

@Slawomirthanx for the hint.

Well i tried to set it to “change all names field”. Then i renamed the user with the admins “rename” function (and providing cert.id and pw). Strange is, when i runned the adminp task with “tell adminp process all”, the name is immediatly change in the NAB, but not in my application (??). Does it take a while?

@Sebastian or @all

Yes John Smith is a very common name. What do you do if you got like 3 John Smiths in your company?

I’m mostly a developer, or administrate mostly very small environments. But my recent project has to cover that issue.

Thanx for any answer

Subject: Hi

Sorry, I understand now.

Well, I start with the first letter of the middle name or the second lastname, whatever is better.

In large organizations you will have a lot of those. It’s better if you can use the middle name.

And for the adminp, it can take a while. Rename is a bit tricky sometimes. You should check the connections, make sure the admin4.nsf is replicating with pull push and not only push, things like that. (If HUB and spoke)
