It took 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete my domino mail server upgrade from code 7.0.x to 8.5 windows 2003 server - 32bit).Upgrade process was VERY VERY slow…
Have others seen this time frame for this type of upgrade ?
1 to 10 % completed was slow and 99 to 100% completed code was slow.

all options installed except (dols, directory sync services and decs).
Subject: Was it a local instal or over the network?
If it was local, it might help to delete c:\windows\vpd.properties file. It is an ISMP database with the info about all components. It might take long if it inserts info about every new component since 7.0x

I copied the code from CD to local disk c: where code is installed. This dropped the time of the install from 1 hour 15 minutes to 5 MINUTES !In previous install, I ran the upgrade from the CD-ROM.

Are you with IBM ? I called notes support and they said this would have no impact (deleting the file). Im afraid of breaking something, then having no support from IBM.

You can rename the file, to be on the safe side. It has the info about the previous installations that remembers (some of) your settings.

memory and processor is not an issue (newer hardware)
upgrade of domino 6 to 7 took 15 minutes
upgrade of domino 7 to 8.5 took 1 hour 15 minutes
If your saying its safe to delete this file before upgrade, I will try this on my next local domino server upgrade from 7.0.2fp1 to 8.5
