Domino Server rename

Hi,

We have recently moved to a new datacenter with a new hardware so literally my old 2 servers in the same cluster were copied to new hardware to the new data center in a new location.

As a policy, e-mail server should be names after the location it’s in.

Now I need to rename the server from GizaDomServ to SVDomSrv.

Please note that GizaDomSrv is my primary domino server and I have few other servers that commuincate with it for different reasons ( BB, Traveler, Protector, EDMS WorkFlow )

What are the probable ways to do that smoothly and without problems.

I think of making a new additional server with the required name, add it to the cluster, link it to all other servers (location documents to & from ) and after making sure that replication and communication is OK, I will shutdown the old one.

Is that OK or you can advice of something better to do ?

And what possible impacts you can think of knowing that most of the clients have GizaDomSrv as their home server on lotus notes.

Good plan on bring up new server as part of the cluster. I would suggest that all users on the server have their server name changed to the new server. Also I would send out a button to the users to click and that would change the mail server field on the location docs to the new server as once you bring down the old server it would take some time to fail over to the new server.
