Domino server crash troubleshooting

We have a Domion 12.0.1FP1 server that crashes but NSD is not run despite the "Run NSD To Collect.." is ticked in the server document.

The server just stops, nothing in log.nsf indicates or reports an error.

I would be grateful if anyone could advise on appropriate troubleshooting steps to try and identify the cause.

The server is possible in a hang state. May I know how do you run your domino server it is an application or a service? If you encounter the same again I would suggest to run Manual NSD

For more information on running a manual NSD on different OS environment kindly refer to the link below

You can refer to this link in capturing the logs needed for the performance issue on the server

I highly recommend to raise a case to HCL Support using the link below to further check your issue

Thanks, I will try the manual NSD when it happens again. But if the server isn't running will this give us any information?

Domino is run as an application.

Crash is something it reports some error on the console and then panic the server, an automatic notes diagnostic is collected.

Do you mean to say the server console is not seen when this situation happens and no Domino task seen in the task manager (Windows)/process list of notes user (Linux) ?

OR Server console is seen however, the server doesn't show any text moving or it doesn't respond to Notes client or any server command which you type ?

It would be better to raise a support case to understand what is going wrong.

Thank you

Hi, thanks for the reply.

HCL support will want the output from NSD which isn't creating anything. If we can get NSD to create some logs then we can raise it with support.

Hi , You may also try to increase the following entry from default of 300 seconds to 900 seconds.

Cleanup Script /NSD Maximum Execution Time:

Server Shutdown Timeout:

Server might need more time to create the NSD logs.

Thanks. Not sure NSD actually started so extending it's run time may not help.
