Subject: Domino Server - Antivirus/Mail Scanner
I purchased TrendMicro ScanMail for Lotus Notes and had some problems in the begining on 4.6 platform and then again now with their new release 2.6 for ND6. I evaluated the Symantec product for ND6 (since they had theirs released much earlier than TrendMicro) and the product worked great. I would definitely go with Symantec if I had the choice again …

Hi again …
What we have here is the Groupshield 5.0 from
Mcafee and it is working great …
When i upgrade the domino to ND6 its still working well !!! but the licence is finished.
Now i have to buy a new one …
I heard that there is problem with the new Trends product … and a lot of problems with the Symantec product too …
But still i am looking for the best product for Lotus domino on all platforms
I did put my eye for TrendMicro …or keep the Mcafee ( do not have product for As-400 )
thanks anyway

Yes, there have been problems with the very newest version of the Trend system (2.6) although I am testing a fix now which appears to work properly.
However, the earlier version which is still supported and with the latest patches fully supports ND6 has always worked flawlessly. There is really no need to look anywhere else IMHO.

Is this “fix” publically available? What does it claim to fix?
Subject: RE: Re: I heard that there is problem with the new Trends product
According to Trend,
“This is an official Hotfix and is available to everyone via our Technical support Group.”
So you should be able to get it just by asking the Trend Technical Support Group".
There is a readme with it that says what it does in more detail.

for what it’s worth…
we have run Groupshield for about 5 years on Domino R4, R5 and R6 and have no reason to switch to a competing product. I recently upgraded a server from R5 to R6 and did not have to touch Groupshield in the process. It has its quirks but I question whether that is unique to any product.
Subject: Depends on server platform O/S
Different antivirus vendors’ products performance depends greatly on what platform you’re running Domino upon.
My main Domino server is AIX unix, and we experienced memory leaks and server crashes evaluating McAfee, to the point of complete unusability of their product.
We tried to evaluate Symantec but they kept repeatedly sending me only the Windows product even after both verbal and written conversation on both sides understanding that our Domino platform was AIX, not Windows. Also, we were looking to buy the entire AV-suite to cover all desktops and servers with one brand, and Symantec’s Windows server and desktop central management package failed to install, giving non-specific, unhelpful error messages, or no errors at all, sometimes just simply failing to finish installing. Whenever you’re evaluating a new product, and being forced to start troubleshooting bizzare stuff from the very onset… that speaks volumes about the product, don’t you think? Also for the vendor to repeatedly send you the wrong thing over and over again, speaks volumes about the company. When their tech support expects you to sit down and perform lengthy Sherlock Holms detective troubleshooting just to get the darned thing to install also speaks volumes about the quality of the product.
We took the Trend evaluation CDROMs, popped them into the drive, ran the default setup (Windows products) and the product just simply installed and worked. The Scanmail for Domino on AIX did give a slight install problem. Their install script made some assumptions on what directory paths the Domino server uses on the unix box, but since it’s just a regular unix shell script, I edited it to use my custom pathnames. After that, the installer ran flawlessly, the product just simply installed and it just simply works.
Guess which antivirus suite brand I just bought a 500 user license for?

FWIW, we use Symantec (Norton) on ND 6.0.1 for Windows (and used it under R5 for years with good results.). YMMV.

My opinion, despite some recent problems…
I recommend Trend ScanMail 2.51 patch3 (the first version which supports ND6) without reservation.
We have used Trend ScanMail for several years and most of the time just forget it is there.

This is a part of e-mail that I received from McAfee:“I’m pleased to announce that development released GroupShield 5.2.1 earlier this week and that Domino 6 is now fully supported.”
For me also beta was ok, and I hope the new one can be the best.
Good job.
p.s. = sorry for my english!!!
