Just wondering if anyone knows when Lotus are likey to release a Beta for Domino 8 - not sure when the planned release is for the final product, is it due next year?
I’m curious as the we’re due to upgrade to 7 next year but having seen the shots of Hannover it looks like a pretty big step forward, are we best skipping 7 and going diretly for 8?

We have migrated two clients to 7 already and it’s been really uneventful . However, considering the complete structural change to the client, the 8 upgrade promises to be something that should be well planned and monitored, and I’m sure there will be an incident or two along the way…
I suggest you just go for the 7 upgrade and you have one major less thing to worry about when 8 does come along.
And with regards to a Beta release - you’re not planning on upgrading to a Beta, right - I wouldn’t start holding my breath till way into the second half of this year, and I foresee (gypsy music goes here) upgrades to a gold release of 8 only happening towards the end of first quarter 2008, if we’re lucky.

No I wasn’t going to upgrade to a Beta !! - some how I don’t see management allowing me to upgrade 300+ domino servers to an 8 Beta ! : )
I’m more interested to see what the changes are and the additional functionality.
What I most dread is switching to 7 next year and then finding out that 8 really is a massive leap forward but then having to stick on 7 for a few more years.
If I could see 8, before the change, and there’s new functionality in there that would be a massive advantage to us then obviously I’d be willing to fight to move to 8 rather than 7.

There was a comment during the Hannover session at Lotusphere that indicated that the first public Beta of Hannover could be available end of 2006.

During one of the Lotusphere sessions, I seem to recall hearing the speaker mention that ND8 (Hannover) gold release would be available approximately 18 months after the ND7 gold release. I’m not sure if the speaker was an IBMer or a BizPartner, so it may have just been a guess on his part.
Assuming that the speaker heard about the projected date from a reliable source, ND8 could be available in Q2 of 2007. I’m also assuming that there will be a fairly lengthy beta period, so I’m going to start looking for a beta release during the last half of this year. It sounds like a very aggressive schedule, but they started working on Hannover well before ND7 went gold.

Don’t skip 7. You probably won’t see a .5 release for at least a year, and another year until anything that can be called “8”. Probably longer.
