Hello,We are in the process of upgrading our Domino servers from 6.5.4 directly to 8.5.
Our organisation has decided that for the moment we will retain the 6.5 clients since the 8 version is quite resource intensive.
Has someone done the same thing in his organisation.
would appreciate any feedback.
thank you.
Subject: *move to 7.0.3 for a better client and mail experience. also, test 8.5 basic.
Subject: Yep…
The basic 8.5-client is kinda forgotten, is really fast, but then again, it´s just the old Notes-client.Everyone is looking at the big fat java-client.
It depends on your need.
The Ecplipse-client is nice and the mailfile look like a real(sic) mailfile.
And of course, all extra features you will find.
But is it neccesary?
Subject: 8.5 upgrade
An echo to the previous two replies. If your client hardware will not run Notes 8.5 Standard I would definitely go to Notes 7.0.3 and even try 8.5 Basic. I have tested 8.5 Basic and it is pretty fast, with little GUI change from 6/7 interface. In case you are not familiar, you can change an 8.5 Standard installed client to a Basic by putting -basic in the shortcut. Makes it much easier for testing both versions.
Also what anti-virus software are you running? I only ask because just this week we switched from McAfee to Symantec and I noticed a huge difference in the performance of my Notes 8.5 client. Before the AV change Notes 8.5 ran too slow to even be considered for an upgrade. Now 8.5 runs every bit as fast as 7.0.3 did on the same laptop.
