Hi
is there any known problem if you have three servers in the same domain using different Domino Versions?
Is it possible to run a domain using Domino 6.5.6, 8.0.2 and 8.5 together and if yes, what are the possible disadvantages?
Thanks
Ben

Subject: Cluster?
Is it possible to cluster 2 servers running the different versions?
I suppose it would be wise not to replicate the design of certain databases like names.nsf but are there others to watch out for?
Subject: You can do it, but…
Certain new features only work all the time when all cluster mates are at the latest version… e.g. Out of Office Service as opposed to using the OOO Agent… There were a few other features in 8.0 that had the same constraint but I can’t remember off the top of my head… See ID108.ODP from Lotusphere 2008 if you have the slides.
Subject: Possible duplicate event docs
Here’s a link to a TN you may need to reference if you see duplicate or missing event docs. I run a test environment with the latest version of all four supported major releases, and this is really the only thing I run into:

Subject: We haven’t had any problems…
We run a mixed environment with no issues…don’t have anything running R6, but I have some servers running R7 in the same domain and there have been no compatibility issues at all.
We plan on upgrading everything to R8.5 very shortly, however, since you cannot get the full benefits of all that 8.5 has to offer if you have a mixed environment. I’d say that’s one disadvantage…
Subject: Yes, this is supported
We run with many different version in our production domain. One thing to be aware of is Adminp requests. Clearly older servers will not know how to process any new Adminp request types. Upgrading the admin server of the directory will help avoid some of those issues, but not all.
But in general, you can feel free to mix Domino server versions and even different platforms in your domain (if so desired) and it will “just work”.
