We’re upgrading from using Domino in just one organization to 3 organizations
I’d like to serve over 50 simultaneous Inotes Web Access Clients and 50 simultaneous Web users on app databases.
Actualy we use Intel Server Judging from our current usage and extrapolating, I believe that the following will be sufficient.
1 or 2 CPU @ 2.4GHz XEON
2 Mb LL3 cache
1GB RAM
72 GB Hard mirrored hard disks
However, for a best scallability without increasing the number of processors is it better to use RS/6000 systems to reduce the number of processors ?
Thank you in advance.
Olivier.
Subject: Domino 6 and AIX vs WIN2K server
Oliver,It is difficult to comment on the amount of hardware that you would require without knowing the requirements for the other two organizations. Several hundred iNotes users could be supported on the hardware you list with lots of resource left over (depending on disk configuration, etc.)
RS6000s do scale better than PCs. For a comparison you may want to review the following URL http://www.notesbench.org
Subject: RE: Domino 6 and AIX vs WIN2K server
I’m running both AIX and Windows (NT4) Domino 6.01 servers. Now my RS6000 is a sizeable box (p660/6M1 quad 750Mhz cpu, 4GB, raid array) and my Windows server (Compaq Proliant ML530 dual 1GHz XEON, 2GB, raid array) is fairly substantial too. The RS6000/AIX box wins the fight easily. Both however exhibit problems (some kind of memory leak sucking the machines totally dry if left running too long) that require the Domino Server to be restarted on a daily basis to avoid trouble, but the unix box allows me to easily do this every night with a cron job, its OS usually never needs rebooted. The Windows box requires me to restart Domino by hand, especially since the OS itself often requires a reboot as well if the free memory level fails to return to normal.
Subject: Need more memory in x86 server
I just looked again at your original post, and saw you are intending to use only 1GB memory. I have 2GB in my Windows server I’m running and it’s not really enough for me, but I have over 100 users on that box. I’d suggest you start with 2GB minimum, maybe even 4GB if you go with dual cpus.
