Domino 6.5.5 migration to 64bit Win2003

Oh boy! I was tasked with an emergency move of a 6.5.5 Domino server to new hardware since they are having problems with the machine. It’s currently running on a dated hardware on Win2003 32bit.

Well, I just found out that they ordered a new server and it came in today, but it’s a 64 bit machine running Win2003, and they need this move done this weekend (not enough time to bring in new 32bit server).

Now I’ve found out that Dom 7.0.2 is the only version that supports 64bit! has anyone done this move 64 bit? is there anything I need to watch out for? Should I upgrade the current server to Dom 7 then move it, or move it then upgrade it?

Thanks for any help!

I did something similar recently, although it wasn’t an emergency. Here is what I suggest:

  1. Upgrade your current server to 7.0.2.

  2. Install 7.0.2 on the new server, use a bogus config.

  3. Move the old server data to the new server. Edit the notes.ini if your directory or server name changed.

Thanks Mark! It sounds like it was a pretty straightforward process for you. Not too painful, huh?
