Domain Index performance

We’re in the process of building a domain index, and I’m seeing performance numbers all over the map. One day it indexes 40GB of data / 6 GB of ft indices / 450k documents. Another day it is 21GB of data / 4GB of ft indices / 180k documents. These numbers are just all over the map.

Any ideas on how to improve and maximize DI performance? The system is a quad CPU box with 4 GB of RAM. Plenty of power and RAM. DI Threads is set to eight.

Hi David,

indexing is very I/O intensive

so the disks should be the first point to look for.

what type of Disks is your DI server working on

local Raid1 or 5 or SAN?

and the second part is

what are the servers doing where the DI reads the data from.

backup

indexing

replication

…

you see a lot of points to look for

have fun

Herbert

Can I ask a stupid question? (No that was not the stupid question). How did you get these DI stats?

Yes, you may ask a stupid question.

Well, actually, there are no stupid questions. There are stupid answers, and the occasional flip answer, but no stupid questions.

On to a serious answer.

The information comes from the Domain Catalog. I merged together information from the Domain Index Status views with information from the Databases view.
