Does anyone know what the dynamicHosts setting is for?

What's the use case for setting the dynamicHosts in LCC.xml ?
The documentation, as far as I understand, mentions it in regard to webseal and caching proxy in front of connections. for example here https://opensource.hcltechsw.com/connections-doc/v8-cr8/admin/install/cp_config_customizer_setup_nginx.html?h=dynamichosts

Why would we use this setting instead of setting the static url in the LCC.xml ? Or why would it be necessary to have different values for the static url and the dynamic host ?

Hello Urs

Please review the following article

https://opensource.hcltechsw.com/connections-doc/v8-cr8/admin/install/t_install_deploy_caching_proxy.html?h=configuring+reverse+caching+proxy+a

It describes why you would use it, and also how to configure it

Hi

After reviewing both pages a couple of times. I still don't get the use case for it.

I mean in my setup I have an nginx in the front (standalone). Dynamic hosts is not set. And everything seems to work. Why would I need this setting then? What does it improve ?

Dynamic hosts can be configured to separate your internal users from external users.

Given your configuration

FYI:

  • The dynamic hosts settings does not affect interservice URLs. Therefore, even when the proxy server is enabled, HCL Connections still routes internal communication between the applications through their own interservice URLs. You can force this internal traffic to be routed over the proxy server by updating the interservice URLs to use the proxy server.

'Dynamic hosts can be configured to separate your internal users from external users.' Is that in the documentation? external users would then need a different url for connections ? or how does this work ?

I just try to understand if I need to update my current/future installations with that setting or if I can ignore it.

The best Practice would be to update the dynamic Hosts settings with the proxy settings.
