Document size becomes very large when pasting a graphic into rich text field

I use Document.Size to calculate the size of the document , but when I copy a graphic and paste it into a rich text field in document, the document size that calculate by Document.Size script is lower than the actual document. The size of the actual document becomes much larger than would be expected. Have any solutions to fix it ?

Testing scenario:

  1. Open an example ppt file from Power Point

  2. Copy a page of ppt file

  3. New a meno in notes client

  4. Choose Edit/Paste to paste the graphic into body field

  5. Now the document size is 1KB (use Document.Size to calculate size)

  6. Send this meno to a test account

  7. Check the size of mail from Sent view in mail file.

  8. Found the size is approaching 110KB.

Actually, I think the post was not so much complaining about how large the memo ended up, but rather wondering why they cannot accurately detect the size before sending.

The reason is that they need to call NotesUIDocument.Refresh(True) to update the rich text into the back-end NotesDocument before they test the size.

Another way to keep the image sizes small, is using the notes.ini line OptimizeImagePasteSize=1. Try it and see.

If a third party is a solution, you can get ZipMap from www.notes-compression.comThis utility captures when the user pastes or imports graphics in Notes and it optimizes it (modifying the format, rescaling, internal compression rate for jpg, number of colors, GIF LZ compression, and so on)

I haven’t heard about ZipMap before, but it seems like a very clever solution (spoken as a potential competitor rather than a potential customer, but also as one who admires clever solutions). I couldn’t tell the price range from the website, but it does look interesting.

Images are pasted into Notes using a proprietary bitmap format that is not very compressed, so the image size can be very large. Instead, save the image in a graphics program, even MS Paint and save as GIF or JPEG, then import that. The end result will be much smaller.
