Disable personal address book

Hi.

We are planning to disable personal address book of all users and instead use a shared address book located in the domino server.

All contacts of users will be added to this address book.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks in advance!

The local address book stores more than contact names – it also stores the larger part of the Notes client configuration (location and connection settings, etc.).

Hi Stan,

Thanks for your reply.

If that would be the case, is it possible that users could not add their personal contacts to their PAB?

Thanks again.

Yes, but you’d need to modify their address book databases (and templates for same – pernames.ntf) to hide the Person (Contact) and Group forms, and will need to get rid of the auto-add functionality. And trust me, you WILL have a revolt on your hands.

Hi Stan,

Thanks again for your very prompt response!

Another question though if it’s ok (as I am really new with domino). Are the files that I would only modify using domino designer would be names.nsf and pernames.ntf ?

Thank you!!!

Yes – but prepare for the revolution first. This is a REALLY bad idea.

Hi Stan,

Thanks again for your reply!!!

Just hoping the revolt won’t happen. =)

Anyway, really hoping that you could also answer one of my post titled Duplicate Entry in Domino Directory. This is really a big problem that we are experiencing.

Again, thank yoU!

Hi Stan,

How about simply setting a READ ONLY access to local personal address book of all users.

Is this possible? How to I do this?

I tried setting a user’s local names.nsf ACL to READER, but same the user can still update his/her local PAB.

Help pls…
