What’s the difference between a response document and a response to a response document?
I know a response document is basically an ordinary doc but with a $REF field containing the docid of its parent. Is a response to a response the same thing, but with its parent being itself a response doc?
Is it possible to programmatically change documents to response docs and response to response docs (and all the way back again) by adding, changing and removing the $REF field?
Subject: Difference between a ‘response’ and ‘response to a response’
Q - What’s the difference between a response document and a response to a response document? A -The parent ($REF value points to) of a response document is always the original document that started the thread. This is regardless of where your focus is in the thread when you create a new response document.
The parent of a response-to-response document can be the original document that started the thread or one of the response documents. The value of the $REF is related to where your focus is when you create the response-to-response document.
Q - Is it possible to programmatically change documents to response docs and response to response docs (and all the way back again) by adding, changing and removing the $REF field?
A - you can remove the $REF value if the document is no longer to be a response or response-to-response. You can also change the $REF value field programmatically by using the MakeResponse method of NotesDocument. You can also cut and paste documents in the view/folder to change them from one thread to another.
