Despite offerred solutions, there are flaws with Mail Rules

After using Notespeek, deleting Calendar Profiles, removing, disabling, and re-enabling rules, re-ordering, restarting Router tasks, there are definitely some strange situations in which some Mail Rules simply don’t work properly. At it’s most basic, we have a rule designed to send copies to others and then move messages to folders. Some rules designed like this work, while others only work partially (performing half of the actions), despite the fact that designated recipients have no Rules that would counteract (not accept) the original workflow rule. In testing this further, I have found that some rules are being processed OUT OF ORDER, despite re-ordering the rules to one’s liking. And even in this out of order state, all rules seem to be performed at least partially, but not completely (half of a single rule is processed in some cases). Regardless of workarounds there may be, you shouldn’t have to jump through hoops in order to correct these kinds of issues. From log examination, the source mail files are autoforwarding messages to null in one case… which of course is not defined in the rule.

Then there are rules that work for a period of time, and then nothing changes, and all of a sudden the rule doesn’t process messages as it once did. Some “size based” forwarding rules here again have failed in our environment… kind of ugly in terms of what it takes to get these things to work as desired on a consistent basis. Have we just come to expect that there will often be occassions that we’ll have to spend extra time finding kluge solutions to funky problems that we otherwise wouldn’t have expected?

I have been noticing my old R5 rules are no longer working with Notes 6 also. Very frustrating. Hope Lotus has some suggestions! Also wish the rules had better filter options like Outlook.

Subject: Open an incident with Lotus support

You need to open an incident with Lotus whenever you run into issues like this. (I have many incidents open now, including one about Mail rules)

Lotus can’t/won’t fix anything unless it’s officially reported, and (apparently) unless they get multiple calls on an issue, don’t necessarily see it as a priority.
