I added an agent to a template and it was set as “No Refresh”. The agent is now in a bunch of mail files. I want to get rid of the agent from the mail files is there an easier way to do it than to open each mail file in designer and delete it?
I posted this in the Domino Developer section and didn’t get a response. I hope I am not out of line posting it here too. If so tell me what the proper procedures are.
Thanks for any help available.

NK,
I’m not sure what you mean by the “Domino Developer section” but this is the right forum for Notes/Domino 6 and 7 design and system admin questions.
You checked the agent property “Prohibit design refresh or replace to modify” but you also needed to check “Propagate this prohibition of design change” and since you missed that second setting, this explains why your agent ended up in all the databases based on that template.
The way I’d handle the deletion would be to…
-
Make a copy of your agent and save it with a different name.
-
In the new agent, check the checkboxes of both agent properties I mentioned – “Prohibit design refresh or replace to modify” and “Propagate this prohibition of design change”.
-
In the original agent, uncheck that “Prohibit design refresh or replace to modify” setting and then delete the agent.
At 1 AM (unless this default time has been changed), the DESIGN task will run on schedule and update everyone’s mail file and the net effect is that the old agent should be deleted but the new one should not appear in people’s mail templates.
To double-check that this will work as expected, you can manually issue the “load design” command against a particular user’s mail file or a particular folder of mail files. See Lotus Domino Administrator Help and do a search on “load design”.

One way to do this would be to write an agent to delete that agent.
you’d make use of the NotesDBDirectory and Notesagent classes.
