I’ve noticed that 75% of the time when I open my calendar, or go to Open Another Person’s Calendar, it shows the lightning bolt for a few seconds and it opens.
25% of the time, I go to open a calendar, and it starts the lightning bolt, then it flashes Opening … in the status bar, and this can take from 10 to 40 seconds, not kidding. You don’t have to respond about the power of the server or our network, they’re well within means.
I’m just wondering what might be happening during these less often times on the client or the server, that causes this large delay.
Anybody have similar experience or something I can check to troubleshoot why this is happening?
Thanks!
Michael

What template are you using for you mail file, i’ve found that refreshing, replacing or converting the design template fixes this sort of problem, is your mail file compacted on a regular basis and if so with which option?
Subject: RE: Delay in opening Calendar
I an using the 6.0.3 StdR6Mail template.
My mailfile is compacted twice a week with the -B switch.
Thanks.

Have you resolved this issue?
I am also seeing this problem but with longer times. I have just opened up 10 other peoples’ calendars. I am working remotely via VPN with a dialup connection to the internet, so I was not expecting fast responses. The first time I opened the calendars I way getting about 4 mins to open a database using a R6.5 design and about 2 minutes for a R5 design. If I open these calendars again it is only taking abut 10 - 15 seconds!! I can live with that over a dial up connection. If I try again a bit later some are taking 1 to 2 minutes to open not the 10 - 15 seconds!!
I think it is building an index. Now what I am not sure about is if my client is building the index or if the server is building the index. I suspect it is my PC. So I will try this again while on the same LAN segment as the server.
I am using Domino 6.5 on OS/400 and Notes 6.5.1 on Win XP.
