Hi.
I work as an Lotus System Administrator and noticed something strange when we tried to migrate a user from Exchange that had more than 2Gb in his inbox. The migration failed every time we tried the migration and exactly when we reached 2Gb. To solve this we made some of his mail to .pst and imported it afterwards. But somehow we still have a problem with users that reach 2Gb in 6.0.1. For example they can’t send mail with attachements and so on.
My question: Is there a default limit(2Gb) for mailboxes or if you can somehow change this to a larger value.
(I’ve configured the server to “no limit” for all users, but that dosen’t seem to work.)
Thanks in advance!

Was this system installed as R6? Or upgraded from a previous release?
You should have problem with size limits in R6. Are there any errors reported in the log file on the server? This should indicate the reason for failure. Running the compact task with the -M switch should remove any size limit and revert the database(s) to maximum size.

This maildb is not on a FAT32 partition, right?

Hi again!
The reason for the size of the mailbox is that he/her saves all incoming mail since the begining of 2001, so that should add upp to about 3-4 Gb, but we only got 2Gb migrated so far. The maildb is located on a Solaris plattform, so yes, it’s not a FAT32 partion. But how do I go about to increase this limit, when I look in the servers log I see that the user has right above 2GB(99%), and I think that’s why he/her can’t send any attachments and so on. Somebody mentioned 5Gb, how do you reach those amounts?

Hi again.
I just noticed that there is no connection between the size of the mailbox and the percentige. When I look at the properties of the mailbox I’ve got 99,6% for 2Gb, although I’ve set the limit to 4Gb. I also get a 98,2% of used space of at mailbox with no limit and has 296 Mb used, so the problem with attachments and so must be somewhere else…

The percent value is the used space in the file. for example when your mailbox is 2 GB in the file system and you have used space 50 % then you have 1 GB mails in your mailbox. This occurs if you delete many mails in your mailbox. Because Domino does not resize the mailbox when you delete mail. You must run a compact -B on such a database. But this does not help for your problem.

Subject: RE: Default 2Gb limit for mailboxes?!
Hi.
Thanks for the explantion Ralf.
I’ve think the problem comes down to the following error message that I got from the logg:
2003-07-01 Router: Unable to deliver message xxx to xxx from xxx
2003-07-01 Cannot write to file(possibly it is READ-ONLY or the disk is out of space or not ready)
The only way to solve this temporary is to do a compact -D , load fixup and load updall, then it works for a short while… Any ideas???

As Ben stated - did you run the compact task using -M to make the Domino DB the maximum size?

What could he possibly have been storing?

That’s nothing. I regularly deal with 5GB mail files.
They add up when you’ve got people sending album cover art and demo tracks via email.

or CAD Documents…
