DECS Connection and Activity inconsistencies

Hi,

I have a strange problem with DECS that somebody might be able to help me with.

I set up a connection document as follows;

External source : Oracle

User Name : Test_User1

Data Source : X_Oracle_Procedure

The Connection is created correctly, the particular oracle user details I give is sufficient and I can browse my Oracle Procedures and choose the one I want to call via my DECS activity.

Next I set up my DECS activity, using the connection above. The activity is created correctly.

Problem arises when I open a document which is being monitored by the DECS activity. I get an error telling me ;

Server Error: Realtime service cannot find the external table/metadata

It’s like as if the oracle user details I supply to create the connection document is fine to create the connection document,

it can see my oracle procedures etc, however when it tries to invoke this procedures via the DECS activity it fails.

If I create a connection to the procedure with oracle login details of an account with DBA privileges the activity works fine, I get no error and

the procedure is ran in oracle via the activity.

This problem never arose in R5, anybody know what the problem is ??.

Test_User1 account in Oracle has privileges to invoke/run/view the particular procedure.

Thanks,

Alan

Alan:

Are the DBA and the Test_User1 accounts/privileges EXACTLY the same? For some reason, the Test_User1 account does not have the privileges to the metatdata.

Hi,

I’ve actually just got this to work with the Test_User1 account.

On the Connection document I changed the

Oracle Verion to Oracle7.

I previously had this set to Oracle8.

I’ve no idea why this fixed the problem, or no idea when I should pick Oracle7 or Oracle8 ??.

Incidently the Oracle database I am connecting to is version 9i ???.

That’s right…I did not think about that. If you are interested, you can look at the “many” patches Oracle has for the 9i driver. It is correct and your findings are as well, there are inherent problems (and advances) with the 9i driver and some with 8. If you can, stay with 7 but if it is absolutley necessary that you go to 9i, have your DBA(s) download all patches. Also, take a closer look at your tables, rights, user accounts, etc. Also, have your DBA look at them as well and have them run a procedure with the Test User account against the 9i driver and see what they get.
