Date time format on disk

I know that I should know this but I can’t remember. What is the format of a date time field on disk?

I think it’s stored as a real number, integer part is the date (Days after a given date (Jan 1 1970 ???)) and decimal is the time (100/s seconds after midnight ???) in UTC (Coordinated Universal Time or Grenage Mean time zone).

That’s automatically converted when it’s displayed, either to the format of the field if specified, or your OS settings if not.
