Date and Number validation with javascript when browser language change

Webbrowsers display Domino “Date” and “Number” fields according to the browser language setting.

e.g If you have English as preffered browserlanguage, number fields expect dots as decimal, but when using Swedish language a comma is expected otherwise you will get a 400 or 500 http errror. The same goes for datefields.

My question is how webdevelopers solve this issue, I do not want to force i.e a dot or a special dateformat, I want the user to enter number and dates in the format that belongs to their country and language setting

So basically I need the webbroswer to return correct format of dates and numbers, is this possible e.g via CGI. in this way I can prompt the user with javascript if e.g the user enter a dot when a comma is expected.

Thanks

Thomas
