DAMO & VPN Access

My firm allows access to the Domino mail server two ways: 1) With a VPN connection; connection is direct to the mail server

  1. Without going through the VPN, connection is via a pass through server and then connection to the mail server.

When I set up DAMO 6.5.5, I can send/receive mail only when I’m connected to VPN (the MAPI profile is configured to the mail server).

However, if I try to set up a profile for the pass through server, DAMO can’t find my mail file because it’s not located there, just on the mail server.

How can I set up DAMO so that it will go to the pass through server and then to the mail server where it will find my mail file? I’d rather not use VPN if I can help it - it’s very slow.

Thanks-

Problem

Does Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook (DAMO) support the use of a Passthru server?

Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook is not supported with a Passthru server. This feature is being considered for future releases of the product.

Workaround to enable use of passthru server

Below are the steps necessary to allow the Outlook/DAMO client make use of the passthru server capability; this assumes that the destination and passthru servers have been properly configured.

Workaround

After the creation of the user’s profile, open the names.nsf contained in the user’s DAMO data directory using a Notes Client.

Open the Location document specific to this user and enter the Notes hierarchical name of the passthru server in the “Passthru server” field. Save and close the Location document.

Create a new Connection document of type “Passthru server” and enter the Notes hierarchical names of the passthru server and the destination servers.

Create a new Connection document of type “Local Area Network” and identify the DNS path to the passthru server (IP address).

Depending how the passthru server is configured, if it is in another Notes domain or a member of a different certifier organization or organizational unit, it would be necessary to copy the Notes cross-certificate for this user from another local names.nsf to the certificates view of this, the DAMO names.nsf.

If the Security tab of the passthru server document is configured to allow all users to pass through by entering an asterisk in the “Route through” field to the destination server, configuration would be simpler:

Troubleshooting:

Setting the ini parameter of…

Log_Sessions=1

…on both servers will help to troubleshoot configuration.

In addition, setting…

PASSTHRU_LOGLEVEL=5

…on both servers and the DAMO client will capture helpful information in the log.nsf.
