Creating Links to other documents

Hello everyone,

I’ve been trying to figure out how to create a link/hyperlink to a file in our server drive for the past hour. I’ve read the Lotus Notes help topics, but I just can’t seem to understand it very well.

I’m trying to do this so that when I make a new memo, I can paste the link/hyperlink to a file on our server. Then other people who read my email can click on that link and access the same file on the server.

Please help and thanks.

Can you simply enter the path to the file and use file:// to open it?

file://path/to/file/filename.xls

That should create a hyperlink to the file that would launch the file if systems are setup correctly and recipients can get to the file…

Thanks for the response.

I’ve already done that. But is there no way for Lotus Notes to locate a file and copy/paste as link?

Hi Frank

If you can relocate file in Server Data \ domino \ html \ folder then it can be directly accissible by following url

http:// + Host + “/” + filename

else you can create virtual folder (i.e. link to your file folder) in html folder and modify above url as follows

http:// + Host + “/” + filefolder +“/” + filename

This can launch file directly from link.

Hope this is what you expected…

I’d like to add that you should probably start by testing the path on your own, before adding it to an e-mail. Make sure you can access the files in this manner by typing the url into your browswer.

Why don’t you place the file in a Notes database and reference it that way?
