Creating an Index of Categories which contain documents?

We have a DB which hold hundreds of self help documents. Now what I want to do is to create a better way to find these documents other than searching. What we have testing right now is a 4 level category system…example:

Hardware

     printers

            Troubleshoot

                       doc: help document

Now my question is that there will be some documents which don’t need a 3rd or 4thlevel and if that is the case I want to user to see the document right away. Right now it shows this:

Hardward

   Printers

          Add a printer

                 Add a printer

The way I have it coded is in the document there are 4 fields. Each field containing a level. The the field is blank it will put the title of the category.

What I would like is this:

Hardware

  Printers

         Troubleshooting

                 doc: Help Documant

         doc: Add a printer

Just like on the Web, but in notes client version. Is this possible?

Thanks

Subject: Try this

  1. Create a form.2. On your form, create four text fields, Cat1, Cat2, Cat3, Cat4, plus any other fields you need (e.g, Title of your help document).

  2. Create a view. Set the selection formula to include documents with the form you created in step 1.

  3. Make the first view column categorized with the following formula:

Cat1+@If(Cat2=“”;“”;“\”+Cat2)+@If(Cat3=“”;“”;“\”+Cat3)+@If(Cat4=“”;“”;“\”+Cat4)

  1. Make the second column another field from your form (e.g., Title).

  2. Create some documents and look at the view.

Subject: THAT DID IT!!!

Thanks so much! I can’t believe it was that easy! That’s exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks for getting back to my posting so quickly.

Thanks again!
