Create a comma delimited file and attach it - but dont save to file system

I am successfully using LotusScript to create the comma delimited file in the format I desire using NotesStream.

The problem is that I am saving the result on the server’s hard drive. This is a restricted operation.

Is there a way that NotesStream can access and update a file which is already attached to a Notes document?

OR

Maybe NotesStream is not the way to go. Is there some other technique where I can basically export all documents to a comma-delimited file and then either email the file or attach it to a webpage for download?

Thanks in advance,

Marc Robon

“Normal” attaching can only be done if you touch the file system. If you’re willing to look at DXL, though, you should be able to export the subject document, modify the CDATA section in the appropriate $File item and re-import, all without touching the file system. Start with a local database and export the document to a file so you can see what you’re doing – which elements you need to look for, etc., then decide whether DOM, SAX or even standard text methods against the stream are best for you.

If you’d like to consider an export tool that has been developed specifically for Lotus Notes/Domino we have one written totally in standard LotusScript.

It has the option of automatically emailing exported files and/or attaching it to a web page for download.

It enables you to export Lotus Notes/Domino data from any database/view/document in the following formats:

  • CSV (comma)

  • Fixed Width

  • Tab Delimited

  • Microsoft Access

  • Micosfoft Excel

  • Microsoft Word

  • PDF

  • HTML

  • XML

It fully supports exporting using Notes clients and web browsers.

Single user license costs less than an hour of a developer’s time.

Does that actually solve the problem described? That is, can it create the attachment without touching the file system? The DXL solution will.
