Copying Calendar Documents to a New Mail File

I had a mail file with a corrupt inbox. I created a new database and copied documents from the old to the new, included calendar entries. Now I get an error “Invalid or Nonexistent Parent Document” when opening a calender doc. Is there a way to copy calendar doc’s successfully to a new mail file?

Thanks for any info supplied!!!

If the mail file has a corrupt inbox have you tried to remove the inbox folder and then refresh the design? Sometimes that does help. The other thing I have done (which is a little “not following the IBM standards”) is to replace the design of the mail file with some other design. Then replace the mail file then with the mail template.

Joe,

Thanks for the info. I did try refresh and replace, but still used the mail file template. I didn’t try to another design template and then back to the mail file (interesting). When I did the refresh and replace I still couldn’t get the in-box back at all. Which is why I went to copy and paste to a new mail file. I didn’t want to go that route either, since maybe it was a corrupt document causing the problem. The user had so many calendar doc’s I wanted to keep her as happy as possible (not access old mail via CD ROM or whatever). But now I have that calendar problem. I would like to try what your advice, but I am so worried about her old database. From what I can tell (I was monitoring the server with the Admin application and saw a corruption error regarding her in-box and then 30 seconds later, poof), her moving a document from her in-box to a folder brought down our server (no error message on the NT server screen, just Notes was brought completely down). Scary stuff. Maybe a coincident?? I don’t know.

Thanks again for your advice!!!

Dave

I had that problem but was able to resolve it using the design replace and back option. What you will see is that all the old design elements will be removed from the design to be replaced with some other template. Then when you replace the design back to the mail template you will get the items (as new items) again.

If you had more than one inbox having problems then I would say the template is corrupt, but since it is only one user – one should be confident with this proposal.

You can also just stop the server and make an os copy of her mail file on another server and test this out before doing the prescribe action on the production server. This is a good way of testing if you are not confident.
